Fairfax Hills Park, Inc was Incorporated in April 1964 with originally 11 Board of Directors members. Some of the original 11 Board members are still living in Fairfax Hills today. Stock was sold (beginning at $250.00 per share) to raise the monies to build the Pool. Initially, pool membership was $50 per season for residents and $75 per season for non-residents. Approx 50 families were part of original membership group.
In the mid to late 60’s the Fairfax Hills Park operating budget was approx $3300.00. By 1975, the operating budget for the Pool surpassed $13,000.00 per season. Back in 1975, typical activities included swim lessons and swim team, ladies day events, such as bridge canasta and time in the sun, tennis lessons and tennis team practices, arts and crafts activities for children, and an opening day picnic.
In the 60’s and 70’s, the Annual membership meetings were held at Millbrook Baptist Church. The membership stayed at right around 125 members from 1975-1985.
Dues in 1987 increased to $260 for standard members, $130 for senior members, and $300 for summer members. During this time the budget and expenditures averaged $28,000.00 per year. In the the late 80’s, the membership averaged 85 families and the organization started membership drives.
By the mid 1990’s the park and pool organization was operating in a budget deficit. Membership was in decline and the total membership was averaged 60 families. In 1998 the Board of Directors voted to sell a lot for $44,000.00. This revenue allowed the park to operate the pool through the summer of 2005. However, as a result of funding deficits, the pool closed in 2006.
In Spring of 2013, the land occupied by the pool was divided into 4 Lots and three .5 acre lots were sold to Jacobs Builders and Raleigh Custom Homes. One two acre Lot remained in the ownership of Fairfax Hills Park Inc for future neighborhood use.
Fairfax Hills Park will continue to grow with our community, offering a place of gathering, food, and fellowship.
